You’ve probably heard the old adage: if you continually focus on something it will probably come true. Unfortunately, this saying seems especially valid when envisioning negative outcomes. Consequently, focusing on your stage fright may create a self-fulfilling prophecy.
When preparing for your presentation, consider the following tips to eliminate stage fright:
- Envision yourself succeeding throughout your entire presentation without stage fright.
- More specifically, envision your speech without the specific symptoms of stage fright that you personally suffer from. For example, if you suffer from a weak or shaky voice from stage fright, consider envisioning your entire speech with exaggerated tone and inflection.
- Envision the moments just prior to your presentation occurring without any stage fright. For example, envision your walk to the podium and the moments just prior to your speech occurring with resolute confidence and no stage fright. Speakers usually experience with most sever symptoms of stage fright at the beginning of their speech; make sure your prepare for these crucial few moments extensively.
- Envision a warm audience for your presentation. Your stage fright can be substantially increased or decreased depending on the warmth of your audience.
